Vice President Viengthong Siphandone inspected four major development projects in Khammouane Province on October 25, 2026, urging authorities and contractors to accelerate construction, address obstacles and ensure projects meet their deadlines.

(KPL) Accompanied by provincial leaders, including Provincial Party Secretary Xaysana Khotphouthone, she reviewed the upgrade of the President Kaysone Phomvihane Monument, a 230-kilovolt transmission line and substation, an ethnic boarding school, and the improvement of National Route 12.
The monument upgrade, funded with 4 billion kip, is about 10% complete and is expected to be finished in April 2027. The transmission line project has reached 26.5% completion, while the substation is 47.2% complete.
The ethnic boarding school, supported mainly by the Vietnamese Government, is scheduled for completion before August 2028. Meanwhile, the 147.5-kilometre National Route 12 project, linking Thakhek District with the Na Phao International Checkpoint, has reached 34.73% progress against a planned 35.31%.
Road construction has faced challenges from heavy rainfall, rising fuel and material costs, and damage caused by overloaded trucks, with around 1,300–1,500 trucks reportedly passing through the route daily.
Viengthong called on provincial authorities to improve coordination, enforce vehicle weight limits and provide necessary support to help contractors overcome difficulties and complete the projects as planned.
