(KPL) From March 31 to April 1, Anouphab Vongnorkeo, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR, led a delegation to attend the Asia-Pacific Regional Ministerial Meeting on the mid-term review of the Doha Programme of Action in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
The meeting convened high-level representatives from Least Developed Countries (LDCs) across the Asia-Pacific region, along with senior officials from the United Nations system. Discussions focused on reviewing progress, identifying challenges, shaping strategies for the remaining implementation period, and outlining pathways for a sustainable transition from LDC status.
In his statement, Vice Minister Anouphab Vongnorkeo highlighted Lao PDR’s progress in implementing the programme at the national level, while also acknowledging ongoing challenges. He emphasized the importance of strengthening international development cooperation to support the country’s long-term growth.
Since the adoption of the Doha Programme of Action in 2022, the Lao government has incorporated its priorities into national planning frameworks, including the country’s five-year socio-economic development plans.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the Lao delegation held discussions with senior UN officials, including representatives from the UN-OHRLLS and UNESCAP, focusing on enhancing future cooperation.
The meeting concluded with the adoption of a Political Declaration, which will serve as a guiding framework for LDCs and development partners in advancing the implementation of the 2022–2031 agenda. The outcomes will also contribute to the Global Mid-term Review scheduled for March 2027 in Doha, Qatar
