(KPL/Yonhap) LG Electronics Inc. aims to take a leading role in developing robots specialized for home settings via global partnerships with leading artificial intelligence (AI) players, such as Google LLC and Nvidia Corp., the company's chief said Monday.

In a LinkedIn post, LG Electronics Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Lyu Jae-cheol said the company aims to develop robot products for the home, calling it "the ultimate unstructured environment" when compared with industrial settings.

"A sock left on the floor, a child suddenly running into a room, or the constantly shifting rhythms of family life expose the limits of robots that lack true situational understanding," Lyu said.

The LG CEO said the company's 70-year experience in developing home appliances has helped it acquire so-called life data, or deep knowledge of the household environment.

The Republic of Korean tech giant introduced the CLOiD robot earlier this year, with LG Electronics claiming the home robot will play a key role in realizing its "Zero Labor Home" vision in the era of AI.

Lyu said LG Electronics is working with Google to utilize its AI tool, Gemini, to enhance robots' contextual understanding, while utilizing Nvidia's Isaac robotics development platform to train and test robots in digital twin environments.

LG Electronics will aim to build robots that act as "conductors of space orchestrating the entire home," he added.
