(KPL/VNA) Laos is advancing the development of a comprehensive all-people national defence posture as a strategic task to safeguard national stability in the new period, Lao Minister of National Defence Senior Lieutenant General Khamlieng Outhakaysone affirmed at the recently-concluded 12th National Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP).

The minister stressed that this approach is a decisive factor in firmly protecting independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, while creating a peaceful and stable environment for national development.

Reporting on defence and security work over the past five years, he noted that despite numerous challenges, Laos has recorded significant achievements under the direct, comprehensive and resolute leadership of the LPRP, the guidance of the Central Commission for Defence–Security, the solidarity and efforts of administrations at all levels, sectors, local authorities and the Lao people, along with cooperation from strategic partners.

In parallel with defence tasks, Laos has intensified coordination between central ministries and local authorities in developing defence bases and socio-economic plans in strategic areas, ensuring close integration between economic development and defence–security consolidation.

Looking ahead, Laos will continue to consolidate political foundations, improve the quality of its cadre contingent, strengthen militia and self-defence forces, and build strong combat-ready villages and village clusters to ensure grassroots security and order.

In combating cybercrime, the Lao Ministry of National Defence, Ministry of Public Security and Ministry of Technology and Communications will coordinate to review and perfect the legal framework governing telecommunications and the Internet, enhance specialised human resource training, and promote international cooperation to improve prevention and suppression efforts.
