Laos and Myanmar Friendship Associations Hold First Bilateral Meeting

(KPL) On November 2025, the Laos-Myanmar Friendship Association and its counterpart, the Myanmar-Laos Friendship Association, held their first official meeting in Vientiane on 17 November 2025, marking a new milestone in people-to-people diplomatic cooperation between the two nations.

The meeting followed the arrival of a Myanmar delegation led by Brigadier General Win Maung, President of the Myanmar-Laos Friendship Association, who is visiting Laos from 16–20 November at the invitation of the Lao side.

The talks were co-chaired by Mr. Chanthavong Sengamathmonty, Vice President of the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs Committee and President of the Laos-Myanmar Friendship Association, alongside Brigadier General Win Maung. Also in attendance was Myanmar’s Ambassador to Laos, Mr. Aung Ko, as well as other association members and officials of the relevant sectors from both sides.

During the meeting, the two associations reviewed past cooperation activities and outlined future plans, emphasizing their role in strengthening mutual understanding and public awareness of the longstanding ties between the two countries.

They agreed to serve as a coordination platform to promote the excellent relationship and cooperation between the Lao PDR and the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. Both sides affirmed their commitment to deepening people-to-people diplomacy and fostering positive engagement through joint activities.

The Myanmar delegation also paid a courtesy visit to Mr. Valasay Lengsavad, Vice Head of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee for External Relations. Mr. Valasay praised the visit as a significant contribution to enhancing the friendship between both countries and briefed the delegation on Laos’s current socio-economic development.

In response, Brigadier General Win Maung expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality and reaffirmed Myanmar’s commitment to strengthening cooperation through the Friendship Associations.

During their stay, the delegation also visited historical and cultural sites in Vientiane and Luang Prabang, further promoting cultural exchange between the two nations.
