(KPL) The Government of the Lao PDR held its first open- enlarged meeting of 2025 on July 15–16, chaired by Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone.

The meeting gathered senior officials, including deputy prime ministers, cabinet ministers, provincial governors, and representatives from key party, state, and mass organizations.

The two-day meeting served as a mid-year review of national progress and a platform to strategize for the months ahead.

Officials reviewed the country’s performance during the first six months of 2025 and outlined urgent tasks to be addressed in the second half of the year.

The government discussed the execution of 12 priority tasks outlined in Resolution No. 10 of the 11th Party Central Committee, as well as the implementation of key resolutions adopted during the 9th Ordinary Session of the National Assembly.

Participants examined the impact of newly imposed 40% U.S. tariffs on Lao exports, rising fuel prices, and inflation. Strategies were discussed to mitigate these effects and to expand agricultural exports during the rainy season.

Strengthening national defense and political stability remained a top priority, with a renewed focus on enhancing public safety and internal security mechanisms.

The meeting emphasized the need to accelerate road construction projects in 2026 and beyond. Officials also explored viable funding strategies to support this infrastructure development.

In his address, Prime Minister Sonexay emphasized that despite global uncertainty and recent flooding, Laos continues to maintain stable economic growth.

He underscored the importance of preparing for the 12th Party Congress in 2026 and highlighted several upcoming national milestones, including the 70th anniversary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, the 50th anniversary of the Lao PDR and the 105th birth anniversary of President Kaysone Phomvihane.

The Prime Minister also called for structural reforms aimed at streamlining the organization and operations of central and local government agencies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

Prime Minister Sonexay concluded the meeting by urging all attendees to propose clear, focused, and actionable recommendations to ensure that government policies are implemented effectively and deliver tangible results for the Lao people.
