(KPL/Prensa Latina) Cuban Minister of Culture Alpidio Alonso and his Mexican counterpart, Claudia Curiel, expressed their willingness to strengthen cultural exchanges during a meeting in Mexico City, Prensa Latina reported.

Alonso expressed “the willingness to enhance and diversify exchanges and raise our cultural relations to the level of our political relations,” Alexis Triana, president of the Cuban Film Institute, told PL agency.

He explained that “a lot of emphasis was placed on academic exchanges, organizing film screenings in Cuba and Mexico, and also discussing mutual support for the restoration of cinematographic heritage and exploring possible avenues for co-productions.”

The Minister extolled how film and music can become two of the most important spaces that once united both nations and that they now want to strengthen, as well as academic exchanges in artistic education.

Alonso stressed on the need for artistic delegations at festivals and events organized by both countries, and the possibility of these presentations circulating through various circuits and institutional spaces, and having a direct impact on communities.

The Minister of Culture and the Cuban delegation toured the Churubusco Film Studios and the National Arts Center, as well as the facilities of the Benny Moré Cultural Center, considered the best expression of what has been achieved as part of the cultural ties between both nations and a space that, in his opinion, honors the brotherhood between the Caribbean country and Mexico.

On Monday, the Minister met at the Embassy with politicians, artists, Cubans residing in Mexico, members of the solidarity movement, and other friends.
