(KPL) A significant meeting was held in Vientiane on March 22 to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP). The event was attended by senior Party officials, state leaders, and representatives from various social sectors, reflecting the importance of the occasion to the nation.

In his speech, Secretary General of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and State President Thongloun Sisoulith, a member of the Party’s Central Committee (PCC) Politburo, highlighted the monumental significance of the establishment of the Party on March 22, 1955. He recalled that, fifty years ago, the Party was known as the Lao People’s Party, before it was renamed the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, marking a significant step in the nation’s history.

President Thongloun emphasized the legacy of the Party, founded by the late President Kaysone Phomvihane, who was a key leader in Laos' national revolutionary movement, which was rooted in the aspirations of the Indochinese Communist Party. He recognized the Party’s essential role in the national liberation struggle, its leadership in transitioning Laos into a democratic republic, and its ongoing guidance in the nation’s development.

The President also paid tribute to the revolutionary fighters who sacrificed their lives for the country's independence, acknowledging their pivotal contributions to the establishment with an independent and sovereign Laos.

The ceremony underscored the Party’s legacy, which has been integral to the political, economic, and social development of Laos. Founded with the mission of liberating the nation from colonial rule, the LPRP has continued to drive the country’s modernization and growth over the past seven decades.

President Thongloun called for unity among the people and reaffirmed the Party’s commitment to its ideals, stressing how much Laos has achieved over the past 70 years. He stated, “The establishment of the LPRP was a historic event that laid the foundation for the prosperous nation we are today. It was a selfless struggle for national liberation, leading the country to independence and paving the way for its growth and progress.”

On this historic occasion, President Thongloun also expressed deep gratitude on behalf of the Party and government to the friendly countries that have supported Laos throughout its journey, particularly over the past 70 years.
