(KPL/Prensa Latina)  Issues such as Cuba's current development in biotechnology and Fidel Castro's role in shaping the island's society stood out in a conference held by researcher Ricardo Perez in this capital.

After his presentation “Science, Literature, and Art in the Scenario of Latin America in the 21st Century,” the director of International Relations at the Finlay Institute of Vaccines (IFV), attached to the BioCubaFarma group, explained aspects of the island’s current affairs to the students gathered in the Ho Chi Minh Conference Hall at Jamia Millia Islamia University.

The young audience, which included, too, students from the University of Delhi, was eager to learn more about Cuba, including the main sectors of the Caribbean nation and its relations with the United States.

The Cuban researcher, who is in New Delhi for postgraduate studies, explained that biotechnology is one of the strong pillars of the Cuban scientific progress.

He also referred to Cuba’s beautiful natural environment with dream beaches making the country an ideal tourist destination.

Perez also pointed out the link between India and Cuba in music, dance, and arts in general.

Regarding Cuba-US relations, Ricardo Perez affirmed that due to the confrontational policy of Washington, establishing bilateral ties is currently a complex situation.

He spoke of the senseless blockade that the United States has maintained against Cuba for more than 60 years and expressed optimism that one day this US policy will come to an end and both nations could sit down to talk based on respect and equality.

Regarding Fidel Castro’s role in shaping today’s Cuban society, the expert emphasized that thanks to his leadership, Cuba has ceased to be the playground of the United States and has become an independent country with a people with dignity.
