KPL The ASEAN Tourism Standards Awards 2025 ceremony, a significant event of the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2025, celebrated the commitment of ASEAN member countries to sustainable and inclusive tourism. Hosted in Johor State, Malaysia on Jan 20, the awards honored achievements in four key categories: ASEAN Green Hotel Standard, ASEAN Community-Based Tourism Standard, ASEAN Spa Services Standard, and ASEAN Public Toilet Standard.

(KPL) The ASEAN Tourism Standards Awards 2025 ceremony, a significant event of the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2025, celebrated the commitment of ASEAN member countries to sustainable and inclusive tourism. Hosted in Johor State, Malaysia on Jan 20, the awards honored achievements in four key categories: ASEAN Green Hotel Standard, ASEAN Community-Based Tourism Standard, ASEAN Spa Services Standard, and ASEAN Public Toilet Standard.

This year, ASEAN member countries collectively received 154 awards, recognizing their dedication to upholding high-quality tourism standards. Laos emerged as a standout, receiving 19 awards, a testament to its growing reputation as a sustainable and community-focused tourism destination.

ASEAN Green Hotel Standard

Laos received 4 awards in this category for environmentally conscious accommodations:

  • Nadeuang Village, Vang Vieng District, Vientiane Province
  • Don Kho Village, Sanasomboun District, Champasak Province
  • Don Daeng Village, Pathoumphone District, Champasak Province
  • Nongluang Village, Pakxong District, Champasak Province

ASEAN Community-Based Tourism Standard

Laos secured 5 awards for its initiatives fostering local engagement and sustainable tourism experiences:

  • Wildlife tours in Nam Et-Phou Louey National Protected Area, Houameuang District, Houaphan Province
  • Tha Phaen Village, Luang Prabang City, Luang Prabang Province
  • Xang Hai Village, Pak Ou District, Luang Prabang Province
  • Konglor Village, Khounkham District, Khammouane Province
  • Nalan Tai Village, Luang Namtha District, Luang Namtha Province

ASEAN Spa Services Standard

For spa services blending traditional and modern practices, Laos earned 5 awards:

  •    Spa at Amantaka Hotel, Luang Prabang Province
  •    Senses Spa at Crowne Plaza Hotel, Vientiane Capital
  •    Baan Lao Spa at MyLaoHome Hotel, Luang Prabang Province
  •    Mekong Spa at Phou Vao Hotel, Luang Prabang Province
  •    DaLa Spa, Vientiane Capital

ASEAN Public Toilet Standard

Laos was recognized for its clean and accessible public restrooms with 5 awards:

  •    Public toilet at Nong Saphang Len, Vientiane Capital
  •    Public toilet at Wat Xieng Thong, Luang Prabang Province
  •    Public toilet at Meung Tern View Restaurant, Luang Namtha Province
  •    Public toilet at Gneuang Waterfall, Pakxong District, Champasak Province
  •    Public toilet at Nang Fa Cave, Vang Vieng District, Vientiane Province

Laos is set to receive 10 additional awards in February 2025, further cementing its position as a leader in sustainable tourism within the ASEAN region.

These accomplishments reflect the collaborative efforts of government and provincial authorities, private sector partners, international organizations, and local communities. Infrastructure investments and sustainable tourism initiatives supported by the Lao government have been pivotal in achieving these milestones.

As ASEAN strives to elevate tourism standards across the region, Laos continues to play a vital role in promoting eco-friendly practices, cultural preservation, and community-based tourism development.

This year’s awards underscore ASEAN’s collective vision for sustainable tourism growth and serve as an inspiration for continued excellence across the region.
