(KPL/Prensa Latina)  Mexican President, Claudia Sheinbaum, expressed today her solidarity and support to compatriots in the American city of Los Angeles, due to the forest fires that have occurred there.

“I would like to tell all our compatriots who are in the Los Angeles area and all the inhabitants of this area, who are experiencing very difficult times due to the fires, our solidarity, our support,” said the president during her usual meeting with journalists.

She affirmed that Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente is in contact with the consulate for everything that is required by the Mexicans there.

“I have also asked him to get in touch with the governor of California, for anything that he needs from our country,” she said.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed yesterday five deaths associated with several forest fires that are raging in that part of California.

The magnitude of the fire, which already has around five active outbreaks, spread rapidly due to the incidence of strong Santa Ana winds, causing the evacuation of at least 30 thousand residents in areas of the Los Angeles community.

The state governor, Gavin Newson, who declared an emergency in his territory on Tuesday, said that 1,400 firefighters are fighting “unprecedented” fires.

      Shared Borders, Shared Futures

Peace doesn’t always fall apart because of distant rivals. Peace breaks down because neighbours stop talking. Borders are challenged, and trust chipped away. Small disagreements fester and become permanent. In a world full of global flash points, it’s often relationships between neighbouring countries that quietly decide whether a region moves forward or stays stuck. That idea sits at the centre of one episode in a podcast series I’ve been working on about global governance and a shared future for humanity. While preparing it, I kept noticing the same pattern: when neighbours choose dialogue over pressure and cooperation over rivalry, development follows. When they don’t, stability becomes fragile. That’s why wise leaders pay closer attention to regional partnerships, and why they matter so much for lasting peace.
