Lao delegation participates 77th session of the UN General Assembly

KPL (KPL) Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Saleumxay Kommasith led his delegation to participate in the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 77) in New York, Sept 20.

(KPL) Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Saleumxay Kommasith led his delegation to participate in the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 77) in New York, Sept 20.

The event was chaired by President of the 77th UN General Assembly, Mr. CSABA KŐRÖSI, under the title “ a watershed moment: transformative solutions to interlocking challenges” with more than 150 heads of state and government representatives, more than 40 Deputy Prime Ministers and Ministers of Foreign Affairs from 193 UN member countries participated.

Each country have expressed their views and visions on various important issues of the world, such as international peace and security issues, poverty eradication, the implementation of sustainable development goals, global food and energy insecurity; cooperation to prevent and deal with the impact of covid-19 and restore the economy after the epidemic; climate change and natural disasters; commercial and military conflicts and other issues.

Deputy Prime Minister Saleumxay also participated in the high-level meeting of Group of Friends of Global Development Initiative: GDI declared by President of China Xi Jinping last year under chairmanship of State Counselor, Minister of Foreign Affairs of China Wang Yi.

He also met Azerbaijani his counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov and Serbian his counterpart Nikola Selakovic to discuss bilateral cooperation as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest.

Deputy Prime Minister Saleumxay is scheduled to speak at the General Session of the UN General Assembly on Sept 24. The Lao delegation will also attend and give speech at high-level meetings including the informal ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting, the Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement, the Ministerial Meeting of the Group of 77 and China, the Ministerial meeting of the group of landlocked developing countries and Least Developed Countries (LDC) Ministerial Meeting and others.
