Along the coastline of Ningde, where the sea has long sustained local communities, the large yellow croaker industry is becoming a vivid example of how modern aquaculture can combine innovation, industrial development and community prosperity.
At the center of this story is You Weide, chairman of Ningde Guanjinyang Large Yellow Croaker Breeding Co., Ltd., Fujian Sanduo Foods Co., Ltd., and Fujian Sanduo Logistics Co., Ltd. For decades, he has devoted himself to aquaculture, seafood processing and related industrial development.
His approach closely reflects themes emphasized by President Xi Jinping: putting people first, pursuing high-quality development, strengthening innovation, revitalizing rural industries and encouraging enterprises to fulfill their social responsibilities. Xi has stressed that private enterprises should pursue high-quality development while contributing to common prosperity, improving employees’ livelihoods and participating actively in public welfare.
During a visit by ASEAN media representatives, You’s enterprises demonstrated an integrated business model stretching from breeding and processing to logistics and international markets.
Established in 1997, Ningde Guanjinyang specializes in marine-cage, beach and freshwater aquaculture. It now employs about 180 people, including 32 professional and technical personnel, with annual finished-fish production of approximately 8,500 tons.
Technology and innovation are at the heart of its development. The company has continuously improved breeding and seedling techniques and introduced new technologies, while sharing expertise with surrounding farmers. In this way, industrial development has been connected with opportunities for local producers and rural communities—an approach consistent with China’s emphasis on revitalizing rural industries and increasing rural incomes.
The second major link is Fujian Sanduo Foods, founded in 2007. The modern processing enterprise covers 59 mu and includes a 15,230-square-meter factory and a 3,000-ton low-temperature cold-storage facility. Its “Weiers” brand aquatic products reach consumers in major Chinese cities and are exported to markets including the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan and the Republic of Korea.
For You, however, enterprise development extends beyond production figures and overseas markets.
In recent years, the companies have donated a reported 38.78 million yuan toward Hope Primary Schools, support for students from disadvantaged backgrounds and local infrastructure, including roads, drinking-water facilities and elderly activity centers.
These efforts echo Xi’s call for enterprises to combine economic development with responsibility toward society and to ensure that development benefits people more broadly
The story of Ningde’s yellow croaker industry therefore reaches beyond the sea. It is a story of technology, entrepreneurship and international trade—but also of people, rural development and social responsibility.
As China advances its vision of high-quality development and rural revitalization, enterprises such as You Weide’s are seeking to demonstrate how a traditional coastal industry can move toward modernization while remaining connected to the communities from which it grew.
