(KPL) The Lao government has assumed full management and conservation of the Vat Phou Champasak World Heritage Site, effective September 1, 2026, following the expiration of a concession held by Ying Chokchai Sole Co., Ltd.

The concession investment permit expired on June 22, 2026. To ensure uninterrupted management and preservation of the heritage site, the Champasak Provincial Administrative Committee issued Decision No. 805/PAC on August 20, authorising the Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism to take responsibility for the site. Decision No. 806/PAC appointed a site management committee, while Notice No. 25/PAC, dated August 31, instructed relevant authorities to coordinate the transfer of operations.

The new management committee began on-site operations on September 1, with ticketing, golf cart shuttle services and central parking continuing smoothly. The site remains open to domestic and international visitors, including access to Ho Nang Sida and other key historical structures.

Authorities have outlined short- and long-term plans to improve cleanliness, landscaping, visitor facilities and tourist information services.

The public, pilgrims and visitors are invited to visit and explore the Vat Phou Champasak World Heritage Site.
