(KPL) The National Steering Committee overseeing preparations for the 3rd Review Conference of the Convention on Cluster Munitions (3RC-CCM) held its final review meeting on August 27, chaired by Mr. Thongsavanh Phomvihane, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The meeting brought together committee members and representatives of 12 sub-committees to assess final preparations for the international conference, scheduled for September 13–18, 2026.
Mrs. Mookdavanh Sisoulith, Director General of the International Organizations Department and Head of the Conference Secretariat, reported that more than 500 delegates had registered online, while preparations for logistics, infrastructure, transportation, field visits and essential services had been completed.
She said hosting the conference represents an important opportunity for Laos to strengthen its role in international humanitarian diplomacy while highlighting the country’s continuing efforts to address unexploded ordnance (UXO).
The conference is expected to adopt three key outcome documents: a review of CCM implementation, the Vientiane Capital Action Plan 2027–2032, and a joint Political Declaration reaffirming the Convention’s objectives.
The conference also supports Laos’ national efforts to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 18: Lives Safe from UXO.
