Laos has been named one of the world’s seven must-visit destinations for 2027 by Geographic Expeditions (GeoEx), becoming the only Southeast Asian country featured in the travel specialist’s “Where to Travel in 2027” report.
Laos was selected alongside the Balkans, Egypt, Namibia, Peru, Uzbekistan and Western Japan. GeoEx assessed destinations based on authenticity, accessibility, distinctive experiences and long-term appeal.
According to the report, Laos attracts travellers with its Buddhist traditions, dramatic mountain scenery, Mekong communities and rich cultural heritage. Beyond UNESCO-listed Luang Prabang, visitors can explore forested highlands, riverside communities, local markets and distinctive cuisine.
The reopening of the restored La Résidence Phou Vao in Luang Prabang has further enhanced the country’s appeal, reflecting growing interest in high-quality, culturally immersive travel.
GeoEx said its 2027 selections offer opportunities to experience distinctive cultures, connect with local communities and discover landscapes that create lasting memories.
The recognition is expected to further raise Laos’ profile as a leading destination for authentic and sustainable travel in Southeast Asia.
