Party General Secretary and President of the Lao PDR, Thongloun Sisoulith, accompanied by his wife and a high-level delegation, arrived in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, on 2 June for a state visit to China from 2–6 June 2026.
Upon arrival at Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport, the Lao delegation received a warm and dignified welcome from Chinese officials led by Shen Zhou, Deputy Head of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. Also present were Lao Ambassador to China Somphone Sichaleune, the Consul General of the Lao PDR in Shanghai, as well as embassy and consular staff.
The visit is being undertaken at the invitation of Xi Jinping, Party General Secretary and President of the People's Republic of China.
The state visit is expected to further strengthen the long-standing friendship and comprehensive strategic co-operation partnership between Laos and China. It also aims to advance the building of a Laos–China community with a shared future and deepen co-operation under the spirit of the “Four Goods” relationship, promoting bilateral ties of higher quality, higher standards and a greater level of development.
During his stay in China, President Thongloun and his delegation will hold talks with senior Chinese leaders, meet with the leadership of Zhejiang Province, and visit key sites and production facilities to enhance exchanges and explore opportunities for further co-operation between the two countries.
