KPL At Phu Bia Mining, workplace safety is more than a compliance requirement — it is a long-term investment in people, performance, and sustainable operations. That philosophy was recently brought to life through a three-week Cert IV – Train the Trainer programme designed to strengthen the company’s in-house safety expertise.

Fourteen trainers from the Risk Department were selected to take part in the intensive course, which focused on enhancing instructional techniques, technical knowledge, and internationally aligned training standards. The initiative reflects the company’s broader commitment to building internal capacity rather than relying solely on external consultants.

For Mr. Deth Khunkhamphong, an officer in the Risk Department, the programme marked a meaningful step forward. The selected participants serve as internal trainers responsible for delivering safety courses and providing instruction on high-risk machinery operations across mining sites — roles that directly influence the wellbeing of hundreds of employees.

“This is an important step for our team,” Mr. Deth said. “We are proud to have been selected to strengthen our competencies and contribute to safer operations across the company.”

He explained that the department head’s vision is clear: elevate the capability of in-house trainers by sharpening their teaching methodologies, improving communication techniques, and deepening technical expertise to meet international benchmarks. In a high-risk industry such as mining, the quality of instruction can be as critical as the equipment itself.

Among the participants, Miss. Pheng Tava described the course as both demanding and transformative. Balancing exams, assignments, and tight deadlines required discipline and resilience. Yet for her, the challenge revealed new confidence.

“The course helped me recognize my own potential more clearly,” she said. “It made me realize that with enough effort, I can go beyond my limits and achieve more than I once believed possible.”

Beyond earning certification, participants developed essential skills in leadership, responsibility, and decision-making — qualities that extend far beyond the classroom.

By investing in the professional growth of its trainers, Phu Bia Mining is strengthening the foundation of its safety culture. The Cert IV programme represents more than technical training; it signals a commitment to operational excellence, risk management, and, above all, the protection of its people.
