KPL Phu Bia Mining has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental protection, placing sustainability and community safety at the heart of its operations. According to Mr Han Chanthavong, Manager of the company’s Environment Department, environmental management is viewed not merely as a regulatory necessity but as a core corporate priority.

Mr. Han Chanthavong, Manager of the company’s Environment Department.

“Our Environment Department is considered a key division and one of the highest priorities of the company,” Mr Han stated in a recent interview to the media. “We operate a 24-hour computer-based monitoring and control room to closely oversee water quality and dust levels that may potentially affect nearby residents and surrounding communities.”

Real-Time Monitoring and Advanced Technology

The monitoring system focuses specifically on Huayxai, Nam Mo, and Nam Yon villages—the communities located closest to the project sites. Utilising advanced technology, the company tracks environmental indicators in real-time to ensure all operations strictly adhere to safety standards.

The dust, noise, and vibration monitoring stations

Central to the company’s environmental strategy is its integrated water treatment system, designed to manage and treat water before it is released back into natural sources. In addition, dust, noise, and vibration monitoring stations have been installed in the three nearby villages. These stations continuously collect data, which is transmitted directly to the company’s central control room.

If any readings exceed permitted thresholds, the system immediately triggers an alert. Environmental staff can then quickly investigate the situation and implement corrective measures.

This rapid response mechanism, Mr. Han explained, helps prevent potential impacts on local residents and ensures that environmental risks are effectively managed.

Community members have also acknowledged the company’s environmental efforts. Ms. Mai Many, a resident of Nam Mo Village, shared her perspective on the changes she has observed since the company began operations in the area.

“Since the company was established here, it has paid attention to the environment, especially the Mo River,” she said. The river is a vital resource for local livelihoods, providing water for daily use and agriculture.

Phu Bia Mining’s approach reflects a broader emphasis on responsible mining practices, balancing economic contribution with environmental stewardship. By investing in continuous monitoring, water treatment systems, and community engagement, the company aims to build trust and ensure that development proceeds alongside environmental protection.

As mining operations continue, company officials affirm that environmental care will remain central to their mission, with ongoing improvements to safeguard both natural resources and the well-being of surrounding communities.
