The celebration brought together members of the international, Lao, and Indian communities, with more than 120 guests joining in the festivities.

In his welcome remarks, Ambassador Sangwan warmly thanked the guests for their presence and highlighted the significance of Diwali, emphasizing its timeless themes — the victory of good over evil, knowledge over ignorance, and light over darkness. He also reflected on the historical importance of the Festival, recounting the return of Lord Rama, Goddess Sita, and Lord Lakshmana to Ayodhya after defeating the demon king Ravana, an event that marks the origin of Diwali celebrations.

Ambassador Sangwan further noted the growing popularity of Diwali in Laos, referring to another community celebration held by the Indian diaspora in Vientiane on October 18, as a symbol of the deepening cultural ties between India and Laos.

The evening featured a series of vibrant performances and traditional rituals, including the traditional Indian welcome with Tilak/Tikka, Aarti (prayer) of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi, and spectacular Lao and Bollywood dance performancesby students of Sri Sathya Sai School. Guests also admired the colorful flower Rangoli, enjoyed a photo booth with Diwali-themed props, and were treated to light fireworks and an array of authentic Indian delicacies.

The event created a warm and joyful atmosphere, celebrating the rich cultural heritage of India while promoting friendship and cultural exchange between the peoples of India and Laos.
