Lao, Thai Officials Reaffirm Strong Agricultural Cooperation

KPL Mr. Linkham Douangsavanh, Minister of Agriculture and Environment of the Lao PDR, recently welcomed Ms. Morakot Sriswasdi, Ambassador of Thailand to the Lao PDR, and her delegation for bilateral talks aimed at strengthening cooperation in agriculture, the environment, and activities marking the 75th anniversary of Lao-Thai diplomatic relations.

(KPL) Mr. Linkham Douangsavanh, Minister of Agriculture and Environment of the Lao PDR, recently welcomed Ms. Morakot Sriswasdi, Ambassador of Thailand to the Lao PDR, and her delegation for bilateral talks aimed at strengthening cooperation in agriculture, the environment, and activities marking the 75th anniversary of Lao-Thai diplomatic relations.

During the meeting, Minister Linkham expressed appreciation for Thailand’s continued support, especially in human resource development, provision of technical equipment, scholarships, and training programs. He also acknowledged Thailand’s assistance in addressing natural disasters, including flood prevention and control efforts in Laos.

He emphasized the importance of promoting Thai investment in Laos’ agricultural sector to support socio-economic development, create jobs, and reduce poverty.

Both sides praised the longstanding friendship and close cooperation between the two countries over the past 75 years. They highlighted the effectiveness of existing bilateral cooperation mechanisms and the strong people-to-people ties that further enhance mutual understanding and partnership.

Plans were discussed for joint activities to commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties, aiming to deepen cooperation under the Thailand-Lao PDR technical cooperation framework for sustainable development.

Ambassador Morakot, in turn, thanked the Lao side for the warm welcome and expressed her satisfaction with the progress of bilateral cooperation. She also highlighted Thailand’s recent support efforts, including disaster preparedness along the Mekong River, doctoral scholarships in agriculture, and the establishment of a coffee learning center in Pakxong District, Champasak Province.
