The Lao People's Democratic Republic has officially launched its first export of fresh mangoes to the People's Republic of China, marking a major milestone in the country's agricultural export efforts. The initial shipment consisted of 90 tons, transported via three trucks.

A ceremony commemorating the event was held in Vientiane Capital, with key attendees including Mr. Linkham Douangsavanh, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, and Ms. Lisi Zhen, Economic and Trade Counselor of China, along with other representatives from both nations.
At the event, Mr. Bounchan Kombounyasith, Director of the Crop Production Department, reported on Laos' compliance with China’s phytosanitary standards, a prerequisite for the mango export. He emphasized the government's ongoing commitment to strengthening agricultural production and value-added processing to meet international market demands.
“This initiative is part of our broader strategy to boost domestic agricultural production, reduce dependency on imports, and conserve foreign currency reserves,” Mr. Bounchan said. “We are focusing on integrating agricultural production with processing to create export-ready goods.”
Laos expects to export approximately 1,500 tons of fresh mangoes to China in 2025.
