Titled Ankana: Stories in Monochrome from Santiniketan, West Bengal, the exhibition is curated by Jitendra Jain and Annkush Sharma of Gallery Sree Arts, New Delhi, and highlights monochrome art—a single-tone artistic expression rooted in early 20th-century Santiniketan under the influence of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore.

Mr. Khamsouk Keovongsai, Director of the National Institute of Fine Arts

“Santiniketan is a living testament to the transformative power of education and art. It provides a sanctuary for ideas and creativity,” said Ambassador Agrawal, emphasizing the shared artistic heritage between India and Laos, reflected in both the exhibition and Lao culture.

Santiniketan, meaning abode of peace,” was founded in 1862 by Debendranath Tagore, with Rabindranath Tagore later establishing Vishwa Bharati University there in 1921, fostering cultural and artistic exchanges.

The exhibition features renowned artists such as K. G. Subramanyan, Jogen Chowdhury, K. Laxma Goud, and Haku Shah, ensuring Santiniketan remains a hub of artistic innovation.

Ankana runs from 20-22 February, with daily drawing workshops from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM. The exhibition and workshops are free and open to all.
