KPL Atsaphangthong Siphandone, Secretary of the Vientiane Party Committee and President of the Vientiane People’s Council, met with Soopakij Chearavanont, Chairman of Thailand’s Charoen Pokphand Group (CP Group), on October 28 to discuss potential investments in Vientiane and the Lao PDR, particularly in AI data centres and potash fertiliser production.

(KPL) The meeting took place at the Vientiane Administration Office, where Atsaphangthong welcomed the delegation and highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation among Laos, Thailand and China, including ties between their governments, peoples and business communities.

Atsaphangthong briefed the delegation on Vientiane’s socio-economic development priorities, including efforts to address economic and financial challenges by strengthening industrial, agricultural and handicraft production, promoting sustainable urban development, improving product standards, expanding markets and developing a skilled workforce equipped with modern, environmentally friendly technologies.

He also outlined the capital’s investment potential in light industry and agriculture, real estate, tourism, logistics and trade. Vientiane’s strategic location and connectivity through the Laos-China Railway and expressways offer opportunities to develop the capital as a regional trade and logistics hub. Its agricultural resources, cultural heritage and tourism attractions also provide scope for further investment.

Following CP Group’s presentation on potential cooperation in AI computing centres, potash fertiliser production and other sectors, Atsaphangthong expressed support for conducting feasibility studies. He proposed that, if viable opportunities were identified, both sides could sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to provide a framework for further discussions and cooperation.

Soopakij thanked the Vientiane authorities for the warm welcome and briefing on the capital’s development priorities and investment potential. He said the information would provide an important basis for CP Group to consider future investment projects in Vientiane.

Atsaphangthong expressed hope that continued engagement would help turn potential projects into concrete cooperation and further strengthen economic ties among Laos, Thailand and China.
