KPL Against the backdrop of golden autumn in Beijing, an ASEAN-China Media Workshop delegation led by Mr. Huang Limin, Counsellor of the China Public Diplomacy Association, visited the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) on Wednesday, where participants explored the growing role of media in strengthening understanding and cooperation between ASEAN and China.

Welcoming the delegation, Secretary-General Zhang Lizhong said the visit was part of the ACC’s Open Day, an initiative designed to bring together stakeholders from ASEAN Member States and China for dialogue and exchanges.

He highlighted the long-standing contribution of media professionals to building mutual understanding and closer people-to-people ties, describing media cooperation as an important component of the ASEAN-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The year 2026 carries particular significance for ASEAN-China relations, marking the 35th anniversary of ASEAN-China dialogue relations, the fifth anniversary of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and the 15th anniversary of the ASEAN-China Centre.

Zhang said that over the past decades, cooperation between ASEAN and China has expanded across political, economic and social spheres. Economic and trade ties have deepened, while collaboration in emerging fields such as the digital economy, green development and artificial intelligence has gained momentum.

Established as the only intergovernmental organization jointly founded by China and ASEAN Member States, the ACC has worked to strengthen cooperation in policy communication, trade and investment, education, culture, tourism and media.

Its programmes include ASEAN-China Week, the “Dialogue for a Better Understanding of China,” business exchanges, the ASEAN-China Innovative Economic Forum, youth and educational initiatives, cultural activities and tourism cooperation.

Zhang also emphasized the ACC’s extensive network linking governments, businesses, universities, think tanks, media organizations and communities across ASEAN and China.

For the visiting media delegation, the study visit offers an opportunity to experience China directly and explore new ways of communicating stories of ASEAN-China cooperation.

Quoting an ancient Chinese saying that “good friends feel close even when they are thousands of miles apart,” Zhang expressed hope that journalists would use their perspectives and storytelling skills to deepen people-to-people understanding and bring fresh momentum to ASEAN-China relations.
