(KPL) The 12th National Congress of the Lao Front for National Development concluded successfully on April 29, 2026, marking a significant milestone in strengthening national unity and guiding future mass mobilization efforts.
The congress was chaired by Kikeo Khaykhamphithoune, President of the LFND Central Committee and Head of the Central Mass Organizations Steering Committee. The event was attended by Thongloun Sisoulith, along with the Prime Minister, senior Party and State leaders, former officials, and representatives from central and provincial mass organizations nationwide.
In his remarks, Mr. Kikeo highlighted that the congress focused on reviewing and adopting key political documents, including future directions aligned with the outcomes of the 12th Party Congress and the 10th Five-Year National Socio-Economic Development Plan. These directions are intended to be effectively implemented in line with the Front’s roles and responsibilities.
The congress also approved updated rules and regulations for the LFND’s 12th term, ensuring they reflect current realities, and endorsed a report reviewing the performance of the 11th-term Central Committee. Delegates contributed feedback drawn from practical experience, including lessons learned and successful local models.
A major outcome of the congress was the unanimous approval of the new 12th-term LFND Central Committee, comprising 250 members, including 55 women and 20 monks. The body is expected to serve as a central force in strengthening solidarity and national harmony.
During its inaugural session, the congress approved the appointment of an 11-member Standing Committee, including three women. It also endorsed the leadership structure of the LFND, appointing Mr. Kikeo Khaykhamphithoune as President for the new term, along with six Vice Presidents: Mr. Laopao Xiong Navongxay, Mrs. Boutsady Thanameuang, Mr. Daviengxong Vongvichit, Ms. Xaythida Phomvihane, Mr. Viraphong Phomdouangsy, and Mr. Sulipanya Rasasombat. Additional appointments included seven non-standing Vice Presidents and five members of the Inspection Committee leadership.
Addressing the congress, President Thongloun emphasized the need for the LFND to modernize its approach to mass mobilization. He called for closer engagement with the public, discouraging bureaucratic practices and promoting methods based on dialogue, coordination, and unity.
He stressed that the Front must strengthen its grassroots presence, working closely with communities at village, sub-district, and district levels. The LFND, he said, should serve as a central force for national solidarity while also acting as a mediator in resolving local conflicts fairly and effectively.
The congress concluded with a renewed commitment to enhancing unity, strengthening public engagement, and contributing to national development in the years ahead
