Laos–Vietnam Friendship Art Performance Marks 50th Anniversary of Lao PDR

(KPL) On November 30, 2025  A Laos–Vietnam Friendship Art and Literature Performance was held at the National Culture Hall on Sunday evening to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.

The event was attended by Mr Thongloun Sisoulith, General Secretary of the Party Central Committee and President of the Lao PDR, along with his wife. Also present were Suansavanh Viyaket, Minister of Culture and Tourism; Nguyen Minh Tam, Ambassador of Vietnam to Laos; former senior Party and State leaders; members of the diplomatic corps; representatives of international organizations; and performers from both Laos and Vietnam.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Suansavanh said the programme was organised by the Subcommittee for the Competition and Commendation Movement to mark three major occasions in 2025: the 50th Anniversary of National Day (2 December), and the 105th Birthday of President Kaysone Phomvihane (13 December 1920 – 13 December 2025), the revered leader of the multi-ethnic Lao people.

She said the performance aimed to create an atmosphere of joy and pride in the achievements of the past five decades, while honouring the sacrifices and leadership that shaped the nation.

The event also served to educate younger generations about the wise and heroic leadership of the Party, the hardships endured during the struggle for liberation, and the successes achieved in building and developing the country.

Throughout the evening, performers from both nations showcased the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam through music, dance, and other artistic acts. The programmes blended traditional cultural elements with modern interpretations, reflecting both heritage and the aspirations of the new era.

Minister Suansavanh expressed hope that the audience would “uphold the spirit of patriotism, remain ready to serve the nation, strengthen unity, and preserve and develop national culture sustainably while deepening regional and international integration.”

Featured performances included: Orchestra musical pieces, Lam Khonsavanh Kon Lam (Khonsavanh storytelling/chant) in remembrance of President Kaysone Phomvihane, Naga Pattern Fashion Show: Stepping Towards World Heritage, Group songs by Lao and Vietnamese troupes, Thong Na Si Kham (Golden Field) dance

Sieng Khaen Dang Pai Kai Su Moradok Lok (Khaen Sound Resounds to World Heritage), Gymnastics and thematic dances including Unity is Power, the Lao Workers’ Dance, and the People’s Police Dance

The event was one of several cultural activities held nationwide to celebrate the historic 50-year milestone and honour the legacy of President Kaysone.
