(KPL) Laos and Luxembourg have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties during an official visit by Lao Minister of Foreign Affairs Thongsavanh Phomvihane to the Grand Duchy from 16–18 November 2025, at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister Xavier Bettel.

On 18 November, the two leaders held talks at Luxembourg’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reviewing progress since the establishment of diplomatic relations on 25 September 1997. Both sides noted that political relations have remained consistently positive, marked by regular high-level exchanges.

Luxembourg is regarded as one of Laos’ key development partners. Over the years, it has provided support across multiple sectors, including public health, education, tourism and hospitality, labour and social welfare—particularly disaster relief and UXO clearance—finance and banking, rural development, and public infrastructure. Much of this assistance has also been channelled through international organizations, contributing significantly to improving living standards in Laos.

During the meeting, the two ministers exchanged views on regional and international issues and agreed to deepen cooperation in priority sectors. They pledged to ensure the effective implementation of joint programmes and projects, promote more frequent exchange visits, and further expand cooperation in trade, investment, and economic development based on mutual potential.

Both sides also confirmed continued support for one another in multilateral forums.

Minister Thongsavanh conveyed the Lao government’s gratitude for Luxembourg’s longstanding assistance and expressed hope that the partnership would continue to grow in the years ahead.
