(KPL) On June 23, 2025, Laos moved closer to building a stronger and safer digital environment as the National Assembly reviewed a new draft Law on Cybersecurity. The review took place during the 9th Ordinary Session of the 9th National Assembly, chaired by Vice President Mr. Souvone Leuangbounmy.

The draft law was presented by Minister of Technology and Communications Mr. Boviengkham Vongdala. It aims to protect Laos' digital infrastructure, improve online safety, and support the country’s shift toward a modern, technology-driven future.

“This law will not only strengthen cyber protection but also elevate Laos' role in the regional and global digital community,” said the Minister.

Key Goals of the Draft Cybersecurity Law: Strengthen the safety of national digital systems and data, support a secure and sustainable digital economy, protect the rights of individuals and organizations online, build public trust in digital technology, encourage investment and international cooperation.

The draft law includes 10 parts, 11 chapters, and 79 articles. It outlines clear responsibilities for central and local authorities, sets up legal procedures for cybersecurity operations and emergencies, and ensures that Laos' digital standards align with international norms.

Lawmakers welcomed the proposal, offering strong support and helpful suggestions for improvement.

As Laos continues to expand its digital capabilities, this law is seen as a crucial step toward creating a safer online environment, boosting innovation, and opening more doors for global partnerships in the digital world.
