(KPL) Mr. Chen Rongjie, Deputy Director General of the Foreign Affairs Office of Yunnan Province, China, paid an official visit to Bokeo Province from June 4–5, 2025. He was welcomed by Mr. Kheuanhphet Vongchan, Deputy Governor of Bokeo Province.

The visit brought together representatives from both Lao and Chinese agencies, including the Provincial Development and Reform Commission, the Department of Industry and Commerce, Yunnan Provincial Investment and Construction Group Co., Agricultural Development and Investment (Yunnan) Co., Lao-China Bank, and other relevant stakeholders.

Deputy Governor Kheuanhphet noted that cooperation between Bokeo and Yunnan continues to deepen under the framework of the Northern Cooperation Mechanism between Laos and China. He highlighted Bokeo’s investment potential, particularly through key infrastructure projects such as the Bokeo International Airport and the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone (GT-SEZ). Chinese investment, he said, remains the largest source of foreign capital in the province, particularly in the sectors of agriculture, energy, mining, trade, services, and tourism.

During the visit, the Chinese delegation toured several sites of strategic importance, including agricultural zones, a transportation center, the Phu Kiu Lom Golf Course, Dok Ngiew Golden Triangle Primary School, and the Golden Triangle International Border Crossing.

Mr. Bounthong Sengsikong, Head of the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone Management and Administration Organization, provided a detailed briefing on the zone’s development over the past 18 years. He outlined the government's mechanisms for overseeing the GT-SEZ, emphasizing efforts to upgrade industrial capabilities and maintain peace, security, and socio-economic stability in the region.

Relevant provincial departments also presented recommendations on the future organization, planning, and implementation of the GT-SEZ, with a focus on agriculture, tourism, transportation, and trade. These efforts support the continued development of the national-level special economic zone jointly established by the Lao government and Chinese enterprises, envisioned as a model of cross-border cooperation under China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
