(KPL/Xinhua) More than 14,000 food items in Japan are expected to see price increases in 2025, exceeding the total number of items that were raised last year, according to a survey by private research firm Teikoku Databank.
The survey, conducted among 195 major domestic food manufacturers, revealed that 14,409 food products have already been announced for price hikes through October, surpassing last year's total by around 1,800 items.
The rising prices are attributed to the surging costs of raw materials, as well as increases in logistics, electricity, and gas expenses.
Labor shortages and the resulting rise in personnel costs are also driving the trend.
Teikoku Databank anticipates that more food manufacturers will continue revising prices as the year progresses, particularly in and after the summer months.
