(KPL/Prensa Latina)  In the last 12 months, 1,097 thousand cases of measles were registered in Italy, which places this country as the second most affected in Europe by this disease, a report by the regional health authorities highlights.

An analysis carried out by the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), published in the specialized informative digital site Sanitá/33, points out that this nation was only surpassed in Europe by Romania, which reached a record number of 27,568 infected in that period.

Next came Germany, Belgium and Austria, with 637, 551 and 542 cases at that stage, respectively, while at the continental level the total number of patients reached 32,200, the ECDC study states.

In January of this year alone, according to the latest data released by the Superior Institute of Health (ISS), Italy recorded 70 cases of measles, higher than the 55 reported the previous month and the 52 reported in November 2024, which shows an increase in the disease.

During that first month of 2025, the average age of the reported measles cases was 29 years, with 44.3 percentage points among adolescents or young adults, aged between 15 and 39, while 25.7 percent of those affected were in the over-40 age group.
