KPL President Thongloun Sisoulith sent a message of condolences on January 22 to Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh following the passing of Mongolia’s first President, Punsalmaa Ochirbat, on January 17, 2025.


(KPL) President Thongloun Sisoulith sent a message of condolences on January 22 to Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh following the passing of Mongolia’s first President, Punsalmaa Ochirbat, on January 17, 2025.

The message read:

"I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Mr. Punsalmaa Ochirbat, former and first President of Mongolia, on January 17, 2025.

His passing is a great loss for the government and people of Mongolia. Throughout his career, Mr. Punsalmaa Ochirbat dedicated his tireless efforts and wisdom to the revolutionary cause, national protection, and the development of Mongolia. Notably, he played a leading role in governance and economic reforms, fostering national unity and guiding the country towards democracy and a market-oriented economy with broad public understanding and support.

On behalf of the people of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and in my own name, I extend my deepest condolences to Your Excellency, and through you, to the bereaved family and the entire Mongolian people during this difficult time.

May the soul of H.E. Punsalmaa Ochirbat rest in peace."
