(KPL) Last week, Army General Raúl Castro and the president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, led the popular mobilization against the United States blockade in the Cuban capital.

The mobilization denounced with a chant in front of the United States Embassy the inclusion of the Caribbean country in the State Department's list of countries that supposedly sponsor terrorism, as part of the policy of maximum pressure of that northern power against the Caribbean nation

A few days before the American Democratic president Joe Biden leaves the White House, almost all of the draconian economic coercion measures imposed by the government of the Republican Donald Trump (2017-2021) against Cuba remain in force and in application.

In his speech to the assembled people, the Cuban leader stressed that “the United States' attempt to undermine the dignity of this people, by means of the club, has been destroyed today, with this rally and combative march, which demonstrate how high the honor of our Homeland remains.”

In this context, the Cuban leader recalled that, just one month after leaving the White House, President Biden has done nothing to distance himself from the line of reinforced blockade and economic suffocation of Cuba that was left to him as a legacy by the Republican administration that returns to the Oval Office in January. “With the application of the 243 additional measures and the maintenance of Cuba on the list of countries sponsoring terrorism, Biden has disciplinedly and cruelly complied with the policy that Trump approved during his term,” declared the Cuban president.

Cuba has been the victim for more than 60 years of the application by the United States government of an economic, commercial and financial blockade that constitutes the main obstacle to its economic and social development and that represents a massive, flagrant and systematic violation of the human rights of an entire people.  Added to this is the unjust inclusion of Cuba on the list of countries sponsoring terrorism, drawn up unilaterally by the State Department, which only seeks to inflict greater harm on the Cuban people.

But Cuba is not alone. Numerous voices around the world, and within the United States itself, are standing alongside the Cuban people to demand an end to this hostile and inhumane policy. Recently, the United Nations General Assembly became, for the thirty-second consecutive time, an international forum for the end of the blockade and the exclusion of Cuba from this arbitrary and immoral list.

Adorned with flags of the lone star, marching with a firm and sure step to the rhythm of revolutionary slogans, the Cuban people demonstrated their unity, their unequivocal support for the Cuban Revolution and their unwavering determination to continue advancing in the construction of a socialist, just, democratic and sustainable society, despite the challenges and adversities.

In Taihe county, Fuyang, east China’s Anhui province, a unique stall has become a fixture in a local park every weekend and on public holidays. It does not sell snacks or trinkets. Instead, it displays cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) manikins and first-aid kits, inviting passersby to stop, learn, and practice essential life-saving techniques free of charge. The stall is run by Wu Lei, deputy head of the medical consortium office at Taihe County People’s Hospital, and his wife Liu Jing, head nurse of the hospital’s emergency department. For more than eight years, the couple has dedicated their spare time to this "first-aid stall," while also leading a volunteer team to schools, communities, and government offices. Together, they have helped over 100,000 people acquire life-saving skills. Wu traces the origins of their endeavor to a tragedy that still weighs heavily on him.
