KPL The Lao Government will focus on food production, infrastructure recovery, mineral management, major investment projects, tourism, revenue collection and monetary stability during the final three months of 2026, Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith told the 2nd Ordinary Session of the 10th National Assembly on October 5.

(KPL) The Prime Minister presented a report on the implementation of the 2026 National Socio-Economic Development Plan, State Budget Plan and Annual Monetary Plan, as well as development directions for 2027. The session was chaired by National Assembly President Sonexay Siphandone.

Mr Saleumxay said the government will continue implementing the targets and priority tasks set under the 2026 National Socio-Economic Development Plan and relevant National Assembly resolutions and government directives.

In agriculture, the government will accelerate dry-season production to help offset losses caused by flooding, while repairing and expanding irrigation systems and ensuring timely supplies of seeds, livestock and fertiliser.

The government will also speed up repairs to flood-damaged roads, particularly routes connecting economic corridors, national highways, production areas and tourist destinations.

In the mineral sector, authorities will strengthen monitoring and inspection of mineral production and exports, while promoting the domestic processing of resources with high potential, including gold, copper, potash and bauxite, in line with the country's new mineral development policy.

The government will continue promoting major infrastructure projects that have already been approved and contracted, including the Vientiane-Boten Expressway, Pakxan–Lao-Vietnam Border Expressway and Thakhek–Lao-Vietnam Border Railway.

Tourism promotion will also be strengthened to attract more domestic and international visitors and support the target of 4.46 million international tourist arrivals.

On public finance, the government will expand domestic revenue collection, strengthen the use of modern systems such as electronic invoicing, broaden the Value Added Tax base and improve financial management while maintaining strict control over administrative spending.

The government will continue implementing flexible monetary measures to maintain monetary and foreign exchange stability, strengthen management of foreign currency earnings from exports and investment, and expand the Lao Foreign Exchange (LFX) market.

In the energy sector, measures will be taken to address the impact of fuel price fluctuations, diversify fuel supply sources and reduce dependence on a single supplier. The government will also promote alternative energy and wider use of electric vehicles.
