Lao Prime Minister Holds Talks with Myanmar President

KPL Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone held talks with President Min Aung Hlaing of Myanmar on July 3 in Vientiane during the Myanmar leader's state visit to the Lao PDR from July 3–5, reaffirming the two countries' commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation.

Prime Minister Sonexay welcomed President Min Aung Hlaing, his spouse, and the high-level delegation, describing the visit as an important milestone in strengthening the longstanding friendship and close cooperation between Laos and Myanmar as neighboring countries. He also welcomed the successful official talks between President Thongloun Sisoulith and President Min Aung Hlaing earlier in the day, during which the two sides exchanged two cooperation agreements.
The Lao Prime Minister congratulated Myanmar on the formation of its new government and President Min Aung Hlaing on assuming the presidency. He expressed confidence that Myanmar would continue to advance under the president's leadership and noted that the visit reflected the importance both countries attach to their traditional friendship.
During the talks, the two sides reviewed cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including politics, defense and security, trade, investment, transport, energy, labor, education, humanitarian assistance, and efforts to address transboundary haze. They agreed to further strengthen practical cooperation through the Laos–Myanmar Joint Cooperation Committee and other bilateral mechanisms.
President Min Aung Hlaing thanked the Lao Government and people for their warm hospitality and reaffirmed Myanmar's commitment to deepening bilateral relations. He also congratulated Prime Minister Sonexay on his reappointment as Prime Minister of the Lao PDR.
Following his meetings in Vientiane, President Min Aung Hlaing and his delegation are scheduled to visit Luang Prabang, where they will tour cultural, historical, and religious sites in the UNESCO World Heritage city.
