KPL On July 3, 2025, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone was awarded the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun, one of Japan’s highest honors, in recognition of his significant contributions to strengthening Lao-Japanese relations.

(KPL) On July 3, 2025, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone was awarded the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun, one of Japan’s highest honors, in recognition of his significant contributions to strengthening Lao-Japanese relations.

The prestigious decoration, conferred by His Majesty the Emperor of Japan, was officially presented by Mr. Koizumi Tsutomu, Ambassador of Japan to the Lao PDR, during a formal ceremony held at the Ambassador’s Residence in Vientiane Capital.

The event was attended by members of Prime Minister Sonexay’s family, cabinet ministers, and other distinguished guests.

Ambassador Koizumi praised the Prime Minister for his long-standing dedication to fostering bilateral cooperation, particularly in diplomacy, economic development, and investment promotion. In various leadership roles, Prime Minister Sonexay has actively encouraged Japanese companies to invest in Laos and has worked to enhance the country’s investment environment.

In January 2025, Prime Minister Sonexay visited Japan to commemorate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. During the visit, he met with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, and the two leaders agreed to elevate bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

In his remarks after receiving the honor, Prime Minister Sonexay expressed deep gratitude and reaffirmed his commitment to further advancing the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Laos and Japan.
