(KPL) The National Assembly has awarded commemorative medals marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) to party members and cadres who have demonstrated outstanding contributions to national development and preservation.
A total of 49 medals were presented: 27 to retired party members, including seven women, and 22 to current party members, four of whom were women. The awards were presented by Mr. Xaysomphone Phomvihane, Politburo member of the LPRP Central Committee, Secretary of the National Assembly Party Committee, and President of the National Assembly, alongside Mr. Khambay Damlat, Central Party Committee member, member of the Party’s Standing Committee, Chairman of the National Assembly Party Inspection Committee, and Vice President of the National Assembly.
During the ceremony, Mr. Xaysomphone extended his heartfelt gratitude to all current and former National Assembly staff and party members for their dedication and achievements in safeguarding and developing the nation. He praised their role in advancing the Assembly’s functions and fostering growth across its activities.
He also reflected on the 70-year history of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and the development of the National Assembly since its establishment on December 2, 1975. He emphasized the Assembly’s evolution into a more structured and effective institution, fulfilling its constitutional and legal responsibilities in line with the Party’s vision.
The National Assembly has played a critical role in the country’s legal and political development, including the adoption of the Lao PDR’s first Constitution in 1991 and subsequent amendments in 2003, 2015, and 2025. Over its nine legislative terms, it has enacted and amended 170 laws, deliberated on key national issues, and ensured legal oversight safeguarding the rights of all ethnic groups.
Notably, the Assembly has also succeeded in establishing provincial-level People’s Councils, enabling local representation and closer engagement with citizens nationwide. These achievements are credited to the strong leadership of the National Assembly Party Executive Committee, grassroots organizations, and committed party members.
