(KPL) U.S. Ambassador to the Lao PDR Heather Variava hosted a reception party to mark the 248th anniversary of the independence of the United States of America in Vientiane on Jun 18.

Held under the theme of “Hollywood, a glamorous symbol of the American dream”, the event was joined by Minister of Education and Sports Phout Simmalavong, Minister of Labour and Social Welfare Baykham Khattiya, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Bounleua Phandanouvong, foreign diplomats and relevant officials of Laos and USA.

“From the Declaration of Independence to the Hollywood Hills, the United States has upheld the belief that, through hard work and determination, anyone can achieve success and prosperity.  Hollywood, with its rags-to-riches stories and diverse talents, embodies this spirit and serves as a reminder that dreams really can come true,” said Ambassador Heather Variava.

“As the Lao PDR hosts an ASEAN year focused on connectivity and resilience, we will continue to seek ways to share our experiences on fostering digital innovation and ensuring responsible use of new technologies with the Lao PDR, ASEAN, and the Indo Pacific region,” said the ambassador.

Hollywood’s stories celebrate the importance of people-to-people ties.  As a global cultural icon, Hollywood plays a role in fostering such ties, transcending borders and bringing people together through the universal language of storytelling.

The US ambassador highlighted that, like Hollywood’s experience, the U.S.-Lao PDR comprehensive partnership is a shining example of the power of collaborating to address shared challenges in the goal of achieving a free, secure, sustainable, and prosperous future for people of the two countries.  The two countries have made great strides in areas such as health, education, and economic development.

“As we continue to work hand in hand, we can draw inspiration from the creativity and resilience that Hollywood represents and strive to build a brighter future for both our nations,” said the US ambassador.
