Kapok Flower Festival celebrated in Borkeo

KPL (KPL) This year celebration of Dok Ngiew (kapok flower) Festival held in Tonpheung, Bokeo Province, on Jan 25-29 attracted thousands of people. The annual festival, the 19th of its kind, aimed to promote tourism in the northern province.

The annual festival, the 19th of its kind, aimed to promote tourism in the northern province.

Vice President Bounthong Chitmany, Minister of Public Security Vilay Lakhamfong, Borkeo Governor Bouakhong Nammavong, President of the Specific Economic Zone Jao Wei and thousands of local and foreign spectators attended the festival’s opening ceremony last Thursday.

The festival featured various activities including Miss Kapok and Miss Tourism Lao Contests, cultural shows, and a boat racing which saw the participation of rowers from Laos, Thailand, Myanmar and China.

“The Kapok Flower Festival is a traditional celebration of people of Bokeo Province to promote the preservation of culture, dressing culture, lifestyle and sound customs of the multi-ethnic people in Bokeo Province,” said Vice Governor Khamphaya Phomphanya.

Kapok Star Hotel and Phou Kiew Lom International Golf Resort were also opened and business meetings held on the occasion of the annual celebration to promote the investment and tourism in the triangle area where the borders of Laos, Myanmar and Thailand meet.
