Laos, ASEAN’s Incoming Chair, will Organise Two Summits in November 2016

KPL Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong informed the 26th ASEAN Summit held on Monday in Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi, Malaysia that the Lao PDR will organize the 28th ASEAN Summit back to back with the 29th ASEAN Summit in November 2016. The ASEAN leaders have expressed support of such an arrangement by the Lao PDR, according to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Lao PDR’s ASEAN SOM leader, Mr. Alounkeo Kittikhoun.

(KPL) Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong informed the 26th ASEAN Summit held on Monday in Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi, Malaysia that the Lao PDR will organize the 28th ASEAN Summit back to back with the 29th ASEAN Summit in November 2016. 

The ASEAN leaders have expressed support of such an arrangement by the Lao PDR, according to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Lao PDR’s ASEAN SOM leader, Mr. Alounkeo Kittikhoun.

Mr Alounkeo said in an interview on 28 April that the 26th ASEAN Summit has successfully concluded with the ASEAN leaders having discussed various political-security, economic and socio-cultural issues, and adopted a number of important documents.  Among those was an initiative by the Lao PDR.

Mr. Alounkeo said that the 28th ASEAN Summit will focus on issues pertaining to ASEAN, while the 29th ASEAN Summit will discuss issues related to ASEAN’s external relations and exchange views on regional and international issues, among others.
