(KPL)The Ministry of Public Security held a handover ceremony on April 24, 2026, for the position of Director General of the General Department of Political Affairs in Laos.

The transition took place between Major General Khonsavanh Somphaxay, Member of the Party Central Committee, Vice Minister, and outgoing Director General, and Major General Soulina Keopasert, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry’s Party Committee, Vice Minister, and incoming Director General.

The ceremony was presided over by Mr. Vanthong Kongmany, Member of the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee and Minister of Public Security, with senior officials, representatives from relevant departments, and police officers in attendance.

In his farewell remarks, Major General Khonsavanh Somphaxay presented a report on key achievements during his tenure. He highlighted progress in strengthening political leadership, improving organizational structures, and enhancing the department’s role as a strategic advisor to both the Party Central Committee and the Ministry’s Party Committee. He also emphasized efforts to build a transparent, strong, and effective public security force.

In his inaugural address, Major General Soulina Keopasert expressed his honor in assuming the new role and pledged to continue the achievements of his predecessor. He affirmed his commitment to strengthening political and ideological education among personnel, promoting unity and discipline, and building a transparent and resilient Party organization while addressing existing challenges.

The official handover documents were signed by both outgoing and incoming officials in the presence of the Minister and senior leadership.

In his concluding remarks, Minister Vanthong Kongmany provided strategic guidance to the new Director General. He emphasized the importance of strengthening unity within the organization and ensuring leadership aligns with Party policies and regulations. He also called for improved responsibility and efficiency in professional duties to maintain political and organizational stability.

The Minister further highlighted the need to prioritize capacity building, particularly in strengthening political and ideological foundations, and to enhance professional expertise to effectively carry out the missions entrusted by the Party, the State, and the people.
