(KPL) The inaugural meeting of the 5th Ordinary Session of the Champasak Provincial People’s Council will take place from April 22 to 24, 2026, in Champasak Province.

At a press briefing on April 17, Mr. Thipphasone Samaleuk, a member of the Standing Committee and Head of the Council’s Office, confirmed that preparations for the session have been completed. He stated that the meeting is being convened in accordance with Article 51 of the amended Law on Provincial People’s Councils (2024), along with relevant resolutions adopted on March 31, 2026.

Mr. Thipphasone invited government officials, military and police personnel, students, intellectuals, workers, and Lao citizens both inside and outside the country to follow the proceedings of the session.

The three-day meeting will be held at the Provincial People’s Council meeting hall. It will mark the first official session to exercise the legal rights and duties of the 5th legislature.

During the session, delegates will review and approve key matters in line with the Constitution and applicable laws. These include receiving reports from the Provincial Election Committee on election results and verifying the qualifications of members of the National Assembly of Laos and the Provincial People’s Council.

The session will also consider and approve leadership positions within the council, as well as endorse the organizational structure and personnel of its Standing Committee. In addition, delegates will review and approve the appointment of the President of the Provincial People’s Court.

Delegates are expected to consider the establishment of the Red Cross Society of Champasak Province as part of efforts to strengthen humanitarian work in the province.

Economic and development planning will be a central focus. The council will review and approve the province’s five-year socio-economic development plan and state budget framework for 2026–2030. It will also consider five-year action plans for the People’s Courts, the People’s Prosecutor’s Offices, the State Audit Organization for the southern region, the Provincial State Inspection Authority, and the Provincial People’s Council.

In addition, delegates will review a five-year plan for drafting and revising local legislation and sub-laws to support governance and development in the province.

A special ceremony will be held during the opening session to award the 50th Anniversary Commemorative Medal of the National Assembly to current and former officials, including members of past legislatures, deputy party secretaries, vice governors, and former members of the Provincial People’s Council Standing Committee.

Authorities are encouraging public participation in the provincial development process. A hotline has been established to receive comments, suggestions, and complaints from citizens.

The hotline, 031 156, will remain open until April 22, 2026, during official working hours.
