(KPL/VNA) Thailand and Cambodia on July 28 agreed to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, effective from midnight, following five days of border clashes.

The announcement came after mediation talks in Malaysia, chaired by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Speaking after the meeting in Kuala Lumpur, PM Anwar said the two sides had reached a common understanding on an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, effective from 24:00 on July 28.

The talks brought together Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet and Thailand’s Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai.

This marked a critical opportunity to help end the conflict between the two Southeast Asian neighbours and seek a diplomatic solution to ongoing border tensions./.
