(KPL)  The Cabinet Meeting for April 2025 was held on April 24 under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone. Deputy Prime Ministers, government officials, ministry representatives, and organizational leaders attended the meeting in person, while provincial and Vientiane Capital leaders joined via video conference.

The meeting focused on reviewing the country’s current situation in April and outlining strategic directions for May 2025. The two-day session, running from April 24–25, brought together participants to deliberate on several crucial matters, including the assessment of April’s national performance and plans for May, the celebration of Lao New Year 2568, implementation progress on the three-build directives, the national development plan for 2025–2030,  a draft Decree on the Commodity Production Fund, a draft Law on Cultivation, a draft National Climate Change Adaptation Plan, a draft Vision to 2040 and watershed Land Use Management Plan for 2025–2030.

Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone stressed the ongoing instability in the regional and global landscape, citing challenges such as the United States’ recent hike in import tariffs, which has intensified global economic volatility. He noted that Laos is not immune to these impacts and announced the formation of a special government committee tasked with identifying preventative and remedial strategies to mitigate both current and future repercussions on livelihoods and national development.

He also referenced recent natural disasters—including earthquakes in Myanmar, forest fires, and disease outbreaks—as pressing challenges that demand vigilance and coordinated response.

In his closing remarks, Prime Minister Sonexay called on all officials to actively contribute to discussions by offering concise, evidence-based recommendations. He emphasized the importance of collaboration and focused dialogue to ensure the meeting meets its intended objectives and contributes meaningfully to the nation’s development goals.
