(KPL) Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone led a high-level Lao delegation to the 4th Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) Summit held in Hanoi on April 16, joining global leaders in advancing sustainable development and climate action.

Under the theme “Sustainable and People-Centered Green Transition,” the summit convened more than 400 participants, including heads of state, senior officials, business leaders, and representatives from international organizations.

The event was chaired by Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam delivering the keynote address, emphasizing shared priorities in sustainable development.

In his remarks, PM Sonexay reaffirmed Laos’ commitment to green growth as a core pillar of its socio-economic strategy, aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Despite the country’s challenges as a landlocked least developed country (LDC), he highlighted key national efforts including inclusive participation of farmers, workers, and businesses in green initiatives, technology transfer and international cooperation to bridge development gaps, public-private partnerships to promote clean energy and sustainable agriculture.

“Green growth is not just an environmental necessity but an opportunity to build a resilient and equitable future for all,” PM Sonexay stated, urging stronger global support to ensure no country is left behind.

Following the opening session, PM Sonexay joined a high-level roundtable discussion with more than 200 delegates from P4G member states to explore strategies for accelerating climate action. He also toured an innovation exhibition showcasing green technologies and sustainable solutions.

Established in 2018 and led by Denmark, the P4G initiative brings together 12 member countries—including Vietnam, the Republic of Korea, and Ethiopia—to foster cross-sector partnerships across five key SDGs: Zero Hunger (SDG 2), Clean Water & Sanitation (SDG 6), Affordable Clean Energy (SDG 7), Sustainable Cities (SDG 11), and Responsible Consumption (SDG 12).

While Laos is not yet a member of P4G, its participation as a special guest underscores its growing commitment to regional cooperation and sustainable development.
