(KPL/TASS) The number of foreign tourist trips to Russia increased by 40% in 2024 compared to 2023 and reached about 5 mln, Deputy Director of the Department of Multilateral Economic Cooperation and Special Projects of the Ministry of Economic Development Igor Maksimov said.
"Thanks to last year's promotion, we have achieved a 40% increase in foreign tourist trips to our country. This is around 5 mln, if you look at hotel accommodation, and 9-10 mln, if you look at international air transportation. Especially in Kamchatka, where the number of tourists has increased 1.5 times," he said.
Maksimov recalled that over the past two years the country has done a lot to develop inbound tourism. In particular, an electronic visa mechanism has been introduced and a mechanism for visa-free group travel with China and Iran is being developed. Russia has begun to be promoted in international markets under the Discover Russia brand.
The deputy head of the department also noted that thanks to the brand, new international charter programs have been launched, commercial agreements have been signed to bring tourists to various Russian regions.
