(KPL) Laos and Vietnam reaffirmed their close ties as Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone met with his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Minh Chinh who is on his official visit to Laos for the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and related meetings, scheduled for October 8-11, 2024.
During the meeting, the two leaders reviewed longstanding cooperation across various sectors and explored ways to further expand bilateral ties. They emphasized the growing strength of the Laos-Vietnam partnership, which has seen continuous growth, particularly through the frequent exchange of high-level visits.
Both prime ministers commended the great relationship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, governments, and peoples of Laos and Vietnam. The unbroken friendship between the two nations was further demonstrated by the recent meeting of the Party Secretaries General and State Presidents of Laos and Vietnam in Paris, France, on October 5, 2024, during the 19th Francophonie Summit.
The leaders agreed on the importance of continued coordination between ministries and relevant sectors to implement the outcomes of President Thongloun Sisoulith’s visit to Vietnam between September 10 and 13.
Discussions focused on key areas, including enhancing economic connectivity between Laos and Vietnam, as well as expanding regional cooperation with Cambodia, particularly in infrastructure, trade, investment, and energy.
Prime Minister Sonexay expressed deep appreciation to the Vietnamese Party, government, and people for their continuous support and assistance to Laos, especially during its tenure as ASEAN Chair in 2024. He highlighted the Laos-Vietnam relationship as a unique bond, unparalleled in the world.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further enhancing cooperation in key sectors such as transportation, finance, energy, tourism, and trade. This effort aims to build stronger economic ties between Laos and Vietnam.
