(KPL) On August 3, 2024, the international peace organization HWPL held an online conference to address conflict resolution in Sudan. The event started at 11 a.m. and was attended by around 19 people, including professors, doctors, journalists, and NGO leaders.

HWPL organized this conference to explore peace solutions from various perspectives in order to resolve conflicts and build peace in Sudan.

According to Al Jazeera News, war between the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the military government has raged in Sudan since April 2023.

The United Nations reports that tens of thousands have died, nearly 10 million people have been displaced, and numerous war crimes and humanitarian crises on both sides have been reported. The UN report states that approximately 26 million people in Sudan are unable to obtain sufficient food due to the war.

The event began with an introduction to HWPL and the conference, followed by HWPL's keynote speech and open discussions. People from diverse backgrounds participated in the conference, sharing their opinions and collaborating on ways to achieve peace in Sudan. This provided an important opportunity to explore practical peacebuilding solutions for conflict resolution in Sudan.

Furthermore, this online conference is expected to lay the groundwork for the "Legislate Peace" (LP) project aimed at resolving conflicts both within and outside Sudan.

The “Legislate Peace” (LP) project by HWPL is a global initiative to support and advocate for the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) and its implementation at the international level.
The LP project started off as the Sign Your Support campaign, which was launched to promote the value of the DPCW as a solution for achieving global peace and urge different sectors of society to support this declaration. The campaign expanded into various forms of peace events and activities tailored to regions around the world, including seminars, forums, peace walks, and education.

One participant at the event said, 'Peace must be passed on to our future generations. I miss my family.'

Another participant said, 'I am really grateful to HWPL. I believe education is the key to peacebuilding. In particular, peace education is needed and it must be implemented across all generations. Additionally, the quality and content of education are important; through this, we must foster a sense of national awareness in people and develop a mindset of accepting others.'

Another participant added, 'Through media and communication, we need to share more information about the situation in Sudan widely, so that the international community takes more interest. This will help people understand the reality in Sudan and come together to think about solutions.'"
Starting with this conference, HWPL plans to closely collaborate with Sudanese stakeholders to promote various forms of peace activities throughout Sudan. Through these efforts, HWPL aims to spread a culture of peace across Sudanese society and take a step closer to achieving sustainable peace.
