KPL (KPL) On August 8, 2024, Minister of Industry and Commerce, Mr. Malaythong Kommasith, warmly welcomed in Vientiane Mr. Koizumi Tsutomu, the newly appointed Japanese Ambassador to Laos, along with his delegation.

(KPL) On August 8, 2024, Minister of Industry and Commerce, Mr. Malaythong Kommasith, warmly welcomed in Vientiane Mr. Koizumi Tsutomu, the newly appointed Japanese Ambassador to Laos, along with his delegation.

The meeting was held on the occasion of Mr. Koizumi's assumption of his new role as Japan's Ambassador to Laos.

During the meeting, Minister Malaythong Kommasith expressed his congratulations and admiration for Ambassador Koizumi Tsutomu on his appointment.

He also conveyed his gratitude for Japan's continuous cooperation and support to Laos, particularly in areas such as human resource development and various other projects, with a special focus on the industry and commerce sector.

The Minister also thanked the Japanese government for its technical and financial assistance, including support for the construction and decoration of Laos’ National Pavilion for the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, which will take place from April 13 to October 13, 2025.

He noted Japan’s consistent support in providing training on intellectual property rights, sending staff from the Intellectual Property Department annually to participate in training sessions in Japan.

Additionally, the Japanese government’s financial contribution of 3 million US dollars to the preliminary feasibility study and design for the establishment of an industrial zone in Vientiane was acknowledged.

During the discussions, both parties exchanged views on plans and ongoing cooperation projects, particularly in the business and trade sectors. They also discussed the upcoming World Expo 2025 in Osaka, and the potential for increasing Lao exports to Japan, with a focus on agricultural products, Lao coffee, beer, and other goods.

The talks also emphasized the importance of attracting Japanese investment in Lao industries, particularly in the processing sector.

Ambassador Koizumi expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome extended by the Minister and reaffirmed his commitment to working diligently in his diplomatic role to further strengthen Japan-Laos relations.

He pledged to promote bilateral cooperation, ensuring it reaches new heights in the future, ultimately benefiting the people of both nations.
